Department of Midwifery

1. General Information

Eskişehir Health High School Department of Midwifery has established degree program in 2000-2001 and the same year, to make the student recruitment  and education and training activities has started. As of the 2012-2013 academic year, the department of midwifery which has 250 students and so far 193 students have graduated from.

The purpose of Midwifery Department, during pregnancy, at birth, and the postpartum period can the impression that the mother and the newborn, of detecting deviations from normal and normal fertility who could build their own responsibility, as well as in cases of deviation from normal professional midwifery, midwives can use to train approaches.

For this purpose, students of midwifery courses in the theoretical and practical. Related to women's health and maternity hospitals and health care centers with adequate practical courses in Eskisehir students have the opportunity to do an internship. Also the application of theoretical knowledge and practical courses to gain skills, as well as providing students with laboratory studies.

Graduates who are completed the midwifery department can find the opportunity to make the task eas on women's health and birth in all private and public health sector.

Students who successfully complete the program in the field of midwifery degree/associate degree is given.

3. Admission Requirements

 Turkish and foreign students to start the program for the general admission requirements apply which is determined from OSYM.

4. Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, in-formal, non-formal)

Formal recognition of prior learning at Turkish higher education institutions, vertical, horizontal and transitions within the university are carried out with in the scope of "REGULATION RELATED TO PRINCIPLES ABOUT TRANSITION WITH IN BACHELOR'S DEGREE / ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS AT HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR AND CREDIT TRANSFER BETWEEN INSTITUTIONS" which is determined by Institution of Higher Education.

With in the scope of recognition of certificate-based or experience-based learning except formal education at Turkey, exemption exam is organized  for some  computer and foreign language courses at the beginning of each academic term. Students, who take  the exam and succeed, are exempted from related subjects in the curriculum.

5. Qualification Conditions and Regulations

Student must succeed all courses in the curriculum and have no FF, DZ and YZ notes.

In this curriculum, the student must provide 240 ECTS at least and student’s cumulative grade point average must be  2.00 out of 4.00 at least.

6. Profile of Program (The Aim)

Students who are studying midwifery department;

  • Pregnancy diagnosis by putting the necessary examination, pre-natal care for the mother and the fetus, and the following,
  • To maintain the mother at birth, fetal monitor and determine deviations from normal,Normal doğumları yaptıran, gerekli hallerde epizyotomi uygulayan,
  • To make breech birth in case of emergency
  • To determine maternal and neonatal  identify abnormal conditions, as needed to be able to take off placenta by and to control uterus
  • To do maintenance and monitoring of the newborn
  • To do care and monitoring of mother in postpartum period,to ship risk situations
  • To maintain pathological cases in the field of gynecology and obstetrics
  • To participate in family planning practices
  • To  do pregnancy maintenance of medical and surgical problems

Expected to be graduated as midwives.

    

7. Program Qualifications (Learning Outcomes)

Students who are graduated midwifery department

  1. They can do antenatal follow-up (pregnancy follow up)
  2. They can manage the action of normal birth
  3. They can do breech birth if the doctor is not
  4. If necessary they can implement an episiotomy
  5. They can follow up mother postnatal period
  6. They can follow up and care new born
  7. They can execution related to mother and new born careconsulting and training services
  8. They can be found take appropriate initiatives related to mother and new born in emergency  situations
  9. They can give maternal-child health and family planning services.
  10. They can takes in charge related to immunization and,  care and follow-up of 0-6 years of age, control programs of infectious disease part of primary health care.
  11. They can plans, implements, evaluates, and manage women, family, and for the protection of public health and midwifery practice can be met by increasing the required training
  12. They can  take part in the hospital management related to midwifery

8. Employment Possibilities of Graduates

  • Midwives who graduate from our department can take part in;
  • All the relevant sections of the public and private health care institutions,
  • Community health, family health, maternal and child health and family planning centers,
  • Part of the faculty in universities or colleges related to midwifery

9. Transition to The Upper Level Programs

If candidates, who are successful completion of undergraduate degree, take valid points ALES or equivalent exams and have adequate knowledge of foreign languages, they can study in their fields or graduate programs in related fields.

10. Examinations, Assessment and Evaluation

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is described in detail in "Course Information Form".

11. Graduation Requirements

The student must provide 240 ECTS at least and student’s cumulative grade point average must be  2.00 out of 4.00 at least and for all that;

·       To make at least 100 prenatal examinations

·       To follow up at least 40 Pregnancy

·       To make 40 spontaneous delivery

·       To help one or two breech birth

·       To follow-up 40 risky pregnant women

·       To follow-up 40 mother in postpartum period

·       To follow-up 40 newborns

·       To follow-up 20 risky new born
